Otter Controls is world leader in the design and manufacture of bimetal switches and control systems for use predominantly in automotive and domestic applications. By collaborating with Reltech we have been able to design and build a test oven which can measure and select temperature specified products to within a tolerance of ±1ºC in batches of 4,000 units, using air and not as previously oil as the selection medium.

The advantages of this system are:

1. Increases in first time yield by up to 10%
2. Significant reduction in energy usage for the selection process
3. Elimination of oil and consequently degreasing with trichloroethylene
4. Easy access to real time data to help assist in further yield improvements

This has been a significant step forward in the capability of air ovens to accurately measure the temperature of high numbers of products at one time.
Reltech's expertise has helped us meet our cost down objective for the year on this product range, and we are in discussion to create further systems for other product types.
